I, Dr. Hannah Vu, am the medical director of SkinZone Medical. I am a facial and plastic reconstructive surgeon with more than two decades of experience, during which I have helped countless patients transform their appearance using both surgical and non-surgical treatments. About Nouvaderm

Nouvaderm is a cutting-edge treatment that can revitalize both your scalp and skin using laser technology. This treatment includes seven preset modes to support your hair and scalp, as well as three different treatment modes for skin revitalization. This allows me to tailor treatment to your individual concerns and aesthetic goals. (1) It also allows me to switch between three laser modes when performing a Nouvaderm treatment, including non-ablative, sub-ablative, and ablative to address concerns of all intensities and depths.

  • Non-Ablative: Non-ablative laser treatments resurface the skin without causing any tissue damage.
  • Sub-Ablative: Sub-ablative treatments heat the underlying layers of your tissue, but they do not affect the outermost layers of your skin.
  • Ablative: Ablative laser treatments remove the outermost layers of your skin to reduce damaged and dead skin cells, as well as superficial skin concerns. (2)

The Nouvaderm laser targets the water found in your skin and emits its energy in a grid-like pattern to create microchannels on the surface. This effect promotes quicker tissue healing, stimulates the new production of collagen, and addresses many skin concerns and conditions.

Nouvaderm for Hair

Dr. Vu can also use Nouvaderm to effectively restore new hair growth around various regions of the scalp! Nouvaderm can emit light energy to promote tissue repair and regeneration around the scalp in a process known as photobiomodulation. (3) This process uses various wavelengths of light to prompt certain biological processes, such as stimulating dormant follicles, improving your natural growth, and elevating your scalp’s health. When performing this treatment, Dr. Vu will first use a stem-cell treatment derived from plants to enhance your hair growth and slow any hair loss you may have been experiencing. From there, Dr. Vu will use the laser energy on the treatment area, potentially resulting in thicker and denser hair growth.

Preparation

Once you schedule your Nouvaderm treatment, I will give you a set of preparation instructions to properly prime the treatment area. These instructions will vary depending on the concerns you are addressing, but I may advise you to:

  • Refrain from using any harsh or irritating skincare products, such as retinoids, retinols, chemical peels, or exfoliants.
  • Avoid using medicated or topical hair or scalp products leading up to your procedure.
  • Refrain from taking any medications or supplements that may thin your blood.

Preparation is essential for each procedure and treatment, no matter how subtle or significant you want your results to be. By following the instructions I provide, you can ensure a successful treatment and the best possible results.

Procedure

When you arrive for your procedure, a member of my team will lead you to a private treatment room where they will cleanse your skin before applying anesthetic cream. I will then adjust the settings of the laser before beginning your treatment.

After this, I will carefully pass the Nouvaderm device over the treatment area. If you are receiving a non-ablative or subablative treatment, the laser energy will heat the underlying tissues to stimulate the production of new collagen. If you receive an ablative treatment, the laser will create microchannels on the surface of the treatment area to address superficial damage and deeper concerns. After addressing the entirety of the treatment area, I will apply a serum or ointment to calm your skin or scalp. You will then be free to leave.

Recovery

The timeline of your recovery will vary depending on the type of treatment you receive, the extent of your treatment, and the rate at which your body heals itself. You may experience some redness, swelling, or tenderness around the treatment area, which will subside within several hours to days. Depending on the extent of your treatment, you may also experience some peeling or flaking skin. You will need to refrain from picking or scratching at it, as it may affect your final results. Throughout your recovery, you will also need to protect the treatment area with the proper sun protection when leaving the house. However, I recommend avoiding direct or unprotected sun exposure altogether.

Once you have fully recovered, you will be able to experience the full results of your Nouvaderm treatment.
