An eye bag treatment is a nonsurgical approach to rebuilding collagen, improving skin elasticity, and rejuvenating the under-eye. Nonsurgical treatments offer minimal downtime, no surgical incisions, and a lower risk profile compared to surgical procedures.

Different Types of Nonsurgical Eye Bag Treatments
XERF Skin Tightening
XERF Skin Tightening is an ideal nonsurgical option for under-eye contours if you have mild skin laxity, minor hollowness, and crepey texture. XERF uses advanced radiofrequency (RF) energy, which is delivered at different depth levels to stimulate collagen and elastin production.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers such as Restylane are injectables that restore volume to your skin to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. (1) Dermal fillers are one of the most effective treatments for reducing signs of facial aging, especially for correcting under-eye flaws. Restylane can restore volume under your eyes and cheeks and define your jawline to balance out facial proportions. It is ideal for enhancing the appearance of sunken eyes that can help you look more rested and awake. Other brands of dermal fillers options like Juvederm, RHA, Evolysse and Revanesse are available at Skinzone.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP can improve skin texture, crepiness, and dark circles in the undereye area. PRP stimulates collagen and elastin production that can thicken the thin lower eyelid skin, smooth fine lines, and reduce crepiness. Additionally, it can reduce shadowing and discoloration caused by thin and translucent skin. The growth factors present in PRP can also enhance the quality and health of the skin!
Microneedling with PRP
Microneedling with PRP can improve skin texture, stimulate collagen production, and tighten mild skin laxity over a series of sessions. This treatment can revitalize your skin texture, reactivate the body’s healing response, rejuvenate the skin cells’ structure and tissue proliferation, and reverse discoloration and pigmentation for brighter skin.
Benefits
Unlike surgical under-eye bag treatment approaches, nonsurgical ones can refresh undereyes with little to no recovery time, making them a popular alternative. Key benefits include:
- Minimal downtime
- No surgical risk
- No anesthesia or anesthesia side effects
- Natural-looking rejuvenation
- Collagen and elastin stimulation
- High customizability
- No commitment to permanent changes

Personal Consultation
During your personal consultation, Dr. Vu will evaluate your medical history, examine your undereye appearance and skin texture, and discuss your goals. - Santa Ana office: (714) 361-1555
Preparation
To prepare for your under-eye bag treatment and achieve the best possible outcomes, Dr. Vu recommends that you follow these general guidelines:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements
- Pause harsh skincare exfoliants
- Arrive at your appointment with clean skin, free of makeup, lotion, or sunscreen
- Manage any active eye infections or recent facial procedures beforehand
- Avoid smoking or other nicotine use, and minimize alcohol consumption
Procedure
Depending on the treatment you will undergo, you may receive topical numbing cream to ensure comfort throughout. Certain dermal fillers contain lidocaine to reduce discomfort, and XERF has a built-in cooling feature, meaning that anesthetics are not always necessary. Next, Dr. Vu will provide you with protective eyewear if laser devices will be used. If you receive XERF or microneedling, she will glide the handpiece along the targeted under-eye bag boundaries to safely break down the fat and trigger collagen growth. Radiofrequency microneedling uses tiny insulated needles to deliver thermal heat energy directly into the fat pockets under the eyes to melt small fat pads and tighten the skin. If you receive dermal fillers, she will gently inject them into the tear trough area to mask the shadows and blend the transition between the lower eyelid and cheek. (2) She will perform these techniques in a gentle and precise manner to ensure your under-eye area is treated with care. After the treatment, she will apply a cooling pack, smoothing serum, or specialized bandages to immediately manage heat and swelling.
Recovery
Immediately after your procedure, you may experience mild swelling, redness, and light bruising that can last anywhere from two to five days. During this time, you can apply a cool compress to soothe the area and use prescribed or recommended ointments, but you must keep your head elevated when resting. Swelling and minor bruising often peak around three days, and although you can resume light daily activities, you should avoid strenuous workouts and heavy sweating. After a week, residual swelling and bruising will typically fade, and you can resume wearing light makeup and following your regular routine. Deeper tissue remodeling begins after three to four weeks, and your skin will continue to tighten and produce collagen over the following months.
Results
Nonsurgical eye bag treatments like dermal fillers may deliver immediate volume correction, while energy-based treatments like lasers or radiofrequency show gradual tightening over four to 12 weeks. As results emerge, the transition between the under-eye bag and cheek area will appear softer and more rested. This improvement will have a natural look, like you’re refreshed and energized, rather than a drastically changed, “worked-on” appearance. Results will last anywhere from 12 months to over a year, depending on the specific treatment you receive and how well you preserve your outcomes with proper skincare practices.
Corresponding Procedures
Cheekbone Augmentation
Cheekbone augmentation uses filler injectables such as Radiesse, Voluma, Sculptra, or Vollure or fat grafting or a fat transfer. This treatment can lift and enhance volume to the cheekbones. With added definition and volume at the upper cheekbones, patients enhance facial balance and further reduce under-eye bags.
Lip Augmentation
If you want to enhance the volume and firmness of your lips and erase a wrinkled, faded appearance, lip augmentation is ideal for you. Lip augmentation uses fillers, often hyaluronic acid-based ones, to draw water to the tissues and increase volume. With added volume and enhanced blood flow, the lips become plump, full, and more red.
Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty
A nonsurgical rhinoplasty, or liquid nose job, uses injectable dermal fillers to add small amounts of volume to the bridge, radix, or tip of the nose. (3) This treatment reduces the appearance of contour irregularities, prominent dorsal humps, and asymmetry. It is ideal if you are experiencing subtle asymmetry, minor nasal concerns, a crooked nose, or tip projection imbalance.
